Take a walk through time

Established in 384 BC by the ancient Greeks, Stari Grad translates as ‘old town’ and you can easily trace its history. Wander away from the harbour and you’ll end up among a maze of narrow lanes. Look out for 15th-century St Stephen’s Church with its beautiful baroque façade and Tvrdalj, a fortified private residence dating back to the Renaissance.

Seek out sun spots

Beach fans, rejoice – there are plenty of stunning spots near Stari Grad. In the town itself, if you head north-west of the harbour you’ll find a pebbly place to pitch up and plop down. For a day trip, motor over to Dubovica Beach, just a 10-minute car journey away. This secluded hideaway dazzles with its crystal-clear waters. Pretty Pokonji Dol Beach is worth a trip too.

Visit Hvar Town

In just 20 minutes, you can be exploring the island’s charming capital, Hvar Town. Gleaming marble streets twist off from a yacht-filled harbour, with hidden-away bars and restaurants to indulge in locally-produced wine and delicious Dalmatian dishes. Glitzy beach bars are the perfect place to party from dusk, while a hilltop fortress offers the ideal spot to soak up sweeping views of the island.
