The area around Dalaman has been dubbed the Turquoise Coast thanks to its pristine Mediterranean waters. A smorgasbord of resorts has sprung up along its shores, from bustling favourite Marmaris to new kid on the block Sarigerme. Take a look around this remarkable region, and you won’t be disappointed.
The entire coast is strung with beautiful beaches, from sun bed-strewn stretches of sand to tucked-away coves only accessible by boat. It’s also home to the Blue Lagoon – a strong contender for the title of world’s best beach. Wherever you wander, you’ll find the right spot for you.
Scattered among the modern resorts are the remains of awe-inspiring ancient civilisations – especially those of the Romans and the Lycians, who were the area’s original inhabitants. Plus the mountains that act as the mighty backdrop the coast are home to hosts of traditional hamlets just waiting to be explored.
A hip and happening hotspot, Hisaronu is one of the most exciting towns in the area. Perched on a mountain plateau, it overlooks pine-studded mountains and rolling hills.
Go in search of this small village in south-west Turkey and you won’t be disappointed.
Boat trips, bathing platforms and bougainvillea-splashed streets – that’s Kalkan for you.
The Blue Lagoon in Olu Deniz is one of Turkey’s most photographed tourist attractions, so it’s a prize pick. Bordered by warm Mediterranean waters and pretty promenades, you’ll get to laze for as long as you like in Dalaman. Over in Sarigerme and Marmaris, you’ll find some sun-blessed spots as well.
