Kos’s coastline covers 290 kilometres, plenty of which is blanketed by beach. Soft sands, bar-backed promenades, hidden coves – this little island has the lot. The scenery here is what dreams are made of at resorts such as Kardamena and Kefalos where the twinkling turquoise waters and white sand are destined to amaze.
Away from the main resorts you’ll find Kos Town and further afield there are acres of unspoilt countryside, peppered with quaint villages that have hardly changed in centuries. Some of the island’s most famous historic sites are even older – the Asklepieion, Hippocrates’ ancient hospital, dates from 357 BC.
Enjoy a roll call of traditional tavernas serving up Greek feasts in Kos Town. You can tuck into everything from fresh fish to rich, meaty moussaka. And if you can find the room, follow up the main course with a sweet baklava pastry. Delicious!
Tingaki is all set up for a relaxing beach break, with a 3km strip of white sand and restaurants and bars just a stone’s throw from the rippling seas.
Kardamena is a great place if you're looking for nightlife – and it caters for all ages and tastes too.
Enchanting sights stretch along the coast in this retreat.
Discover the quieter side of Kos as you amble around the warm, shelving waters and the surrounding dazzling scenery.
Over the years, a menagerie of different civilisations were drawn to these shores.

Kos comes with a handful of waterparks so keeping the kids entertained shouldn’t be difficult. If you like to stay active on your holidays, there are plenty of rocky coastal paths and rustic mountain villages, which you can explore on foot or on horseback. It’s a great opportunity to take in the views too.

Kos does a strong line in handicrafts and you can snap up everything from handmade jewellery and leather goods to olive oil soap at the island’s many boutiques and stalls. Make for the mountain villages to buy beautiful handwoven fabrics – the perfect souvenir from your Grecian retreat.
See all shopping (1)Bar Street in Kardamena is where you’ll find the most pumping parties, but Kos Town has its fair share of after-hours fun, too. Sip a cocktail at one of the stylish harbour-front bars or dive into a side-street taverna and raise a glass of retsina with the locals.
