Old town treasures

Sitting pretty on its own peninsula, Nessebar’s old town serves up a tangle of ancient streets, jam-packed with a whopping 44 churches, and a fantastic Archaeological Museum. Have a nosy around its nooks and crannies, and you’ll find yourself stepping back in time as you pass by remnants of Roman and Ottoman Empires, and dinky handicraft shops inviting you to get your haggle on.

Fishy dishes

Fish is the dish of the day in this town, and the rustic stone restaurants around the handsome harbour are a good place to start. Get settled on a vine-shaded deck to savour a local seafood platter with a side of shopska salad and a glass or two of chilled vino. Enjoy all this while you watch old fishing boats bob about on the water.

Seaside fun

Between all that sightseeing and seafood tasting, squeeze in some time at the beach. Upbeat South Beach is made for all sorts of holidaymakers, thanks to its crowd-pleasing facilities and great atmosphere. The water’s gentle, there’s plenty of room, and you’ve got beach bars in easy reach along the wide, sandy shore. And if you’re the water sports sort, you’ll be in your element.
