Beach bliss

Frangokastello’s beach is a beauty – a wide stretch of soft sand lapped by shallow waters. It’s perfect for pint-sized paddlers and anyone who fancies a lazy and peaceful swim. Sunloungers dot the shoreline, without making it feel overcrowded, keeping its atmosphere low-key.

Castles and legends

The village’s namesake fortress looms dramatically above the sea, built by Venetians in the 14th century to guard against pirates. It’s worth a wander, especially at sunset when the walls glow golden. Local lore tells of ghostly soldiers – the Drosoulites – who march each May, adding an eerie twist to the scenery.
