Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Carmo

Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Carmo in Faro is as about as elaborate as churches come. A twin-towered baroque exterior leads to a heavily ornate interior, with a frenzy of sculptures and friezes. It was completed in 1755 after a devastating earthquake, and Brazilian gold is said to have paid for it.
