Amalfi Coast and Cilento

Amalfi Coast and Cilento holidays

This postcard-perfect slice of Italy has plenty to shout about – cliff-tumbling towns, turquoise waters and pebbly beaches that draw in chic-seeking tourists to its shores year after year. Positano and Ravello are big names on the scene, but you’ll also find hidden gems like Maiori and Conca Dei Marini too. When it comes to the cuisine, expect to feast on hearty bowls of spaghetti alle vongole and moreish mozzarella. Further down from the Amalfi’s 50-kilometre shoreline, you’ll stumble across scenic Salerno with its pretty promenade and centuries-old castle, while in the southernmost part of Campania, holidays mean sinking into the relaxed rhythms of Cilento – home to ancient towns, archaeological wonders and a knockout national park.

Cliff-clinging towns

This stunning coastline packs in plenty of highlights into its teetering towns. Start with pretty Positano. It’s filled with pastel-hued houses, family-run trattorias and a pretty harbour – perfect for living la dolce vita! Minori and Vietri Sul Mare have also been blessed with equally good looks.

Heaps of history

Over in the Salerno region is Paestum – a town and UNESCO World Heritage Site with plenty of history. It’s home to three of the world's best-preserved Greek temples, including the Tempio di Nettuno and Tempio di Cerere. If you’re based on the Amalfi Coast, you’ll be well within day-tripping distance of the iconic ruins of Pompeii too.

Natural beauty

Cilento National Park is a real showstopper, made up of traditional towns, natural wonders, archaeological sites, majestic mountains and sandy swathes. It ticks all the boxes when it comes to stunning scenery. Further down the coast, you can’t miss the stunning sands in Santa Maria di Castellabate or Palinuro’s enchanting blue grottos.

Beaches

When it comes to beaches on the Amalfi Coast and beyond, there are plenty to pick from. Some are lined with stripy parasols and sunloungers, while others are dinky and pebbly. The backdrop to these beaches is impressive too – think plunging cliffsides and lovely lemon groves.
