Barlovento, La Palma
Our rating
Based on 240 reviews
15.9 Km to Santa Cruz de La Palma Old Town
A rich and rural, green hillside plot, Barlovento is a hiker’s paradise. From pine to drago trees, laurel forests to heather bushes, Mother Nature spared no expense. And you can behold some of the best scenery at La Tosca and Sanmao viewpoints. Plus, while local wine is popular, Barlovento specialises in bananas, avocados and potatoes.
There’s so much to get under the skin of here. Take the Moros y Cristianos festivals, for instance. Plus, you can swing by the 16th-century Nuestra Señora del Rosario Church. Fancy an afternoon on the sand? Hire a car so you can venture to the nearby beaches to relax.
The history books note that a former Pope once stayed on La Palma and was served pastries for breakfast, so the sweet treats there are always fit for papal palates! But Barlovento’s bites have their own sugary credentials. Bienmesabe (an almond sponge dessert), jams, and honey ‘soup’ made of runny cane honey you dip bread into? Sign us up.
