Santa Maria Church

This church overlooks a square centred on a statue of Henry the Navigator. Most of it dates from the 15th and 16th centuries, although it was rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake and a fire in the 19th century. Check out the intricately carved doorway and the high altar’s colourful biblical scenes.
