The King Jaume I Monument sits in the middle of the esplanade at Passeig Jaume I, a wide promenade lined with palm trees. It was built in 1965 by the architect Salvador Ripoli and the sculptor Lluís Maria Saumells and represents King Jaume heading out to sea to conquer the Balearic Isles back in 1229.
