Tamariu’s bay is backed by pines, and expands into small coves, making it perfect for picking some space to sprawl out on. The beaches are some of the coast’s most enchanting, and provide shelter great for families with little ones. You can even enjoy a pick-me-up coffee along the promenade.
Getting involved in the daily rhythm is essential. Why not go diving and discover the remarkable depths in the caves under Llosa de Cala Nova? If you’re around on 15 August, the Festival of Tamariu is all sing-song and foam parties! Further afield, you could journey to Cadaqués or beautiful Barcelona.

For nature lovers and keen birdwatchers, Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park is a must-see. With diverse ecosystems and rivers, lakes, wetlands, beach, pastures and meadows you can spot over 300 bird species. Look out for storks, heron or even a booted eagle. There are hides, marked trails and a visitors’ centre.

Banyoles Lakes is an idyllic spot for a stroll or cycle along the shore or a refreshing dip. Best known as the location for the rowing events in the 1992 Olympics, it's still a wonderful place to rent a boat and get out on the water. There are plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants around too.

The second-biggest building in the region, Basílica de Santa Maria de Castelló d'Empúries sits just outside Empuriabrava – so if you’re on a holiday there, don’t miss the chance to tick it off! Stroll around to admire the neo-gothic façade, then pop to spot 14th-century murals, sculptures and the impressive architecture. You can also climb the church’s bell tower and enjoy stunning views of its surrounding area!
