Relax in authentic tavernas that have held onto that rustic Greek tradition of blue wooden tables, complete with leafy courtyards and the aroma of skewered souvlaki cooking on an open fire. In the tiny village square, locals sip strong coffees and play the Greek version of backgammon, tavli.
Lachania is an ace base from which to explore the natural beauty of southern Rhodes. Stunning views and blonde sands make the area popular with keen sunbathers, but it’s great for a cool breeze, too. Lachania’s conveniently close to quaint villages and hidden-away churches, keeping things nice and simple.
Be sure to visit the ancient site of Vroulia. The area’s famous for fascinating archaeological discoveries, like 6th century BC vases and jugs, which are now on display in the Louvre in Paris! Plus, for even more historical odysseys, venture north along the coastline to the impressive Acropolis of Lindos.
Lachania, Rhodes
Far from the commercial beaches of Rhodes town, Lachania is home to a pebbly stretch that is perfect for a stroll along the shore. This large beach has beautiful clear water and is a short walk from hotels and restaurants serving delicious fresh fish. Peaceful and with little development, this beach is a tranquil retreat.
Lachania, Rhodes
Calling all surfers, this spectacular beach on the south coast of Rhodes was made for you. Fine golden sand, turquoise waters, lots of wind, local surf schools – you bet. And it’s pretty unique in summer when its tip turns into a sand bar separating the Aegean on one side and the Med on the other. It connects to an island at the end too!
Rhodes
Monolithos is a small and well-kept village built in the style of an amphitheatre. It is home to a few traditional tavernas, but its main attraction is a medieval castle standing on a 300-foot outcrop. The castle was built in 1480 and though it stands in ruins today, it provides a great walk and beautiful coastal views.
