Minies has an away-from-it-all feel, so you won’t struggle to find a secluded spot on its sand. Its beaches are also ideal for families thanks to the shallow, sand-and-shingle shores. If bellies rumble, you’ll find a small taverna at the back of the main beach, serving up basic drinks and snacks.
Minies boasts a brilliant beachfront location with a laidback feel, as well as being conveniently close to the airport. What’s more, the bustling resort of Lassi is also only a short, ten-minute drive away. Here, you’ll find a smattering of traditional tavernas, bars and shops.
Kefalonia
This pretty harbour village surrounded by pebbly beaches has an atmosphere of traditional Greek hospitality. It’s a popular stop off for sailing boats and there are some great waterside cafes and tavernas. You have to try the wood-fired bread from the local bakery. It is also home to a well-regarded diving school.
Kefalonia
The sprawling Venetian fortress in Assos was built in 16th century to protect the townspeople from pirates and Turks. You can take a walk up from the village through along a steep and winding track through olive trees to explore the fascinating ruins. Remember to take some water as there’s no café at the top.
Kefalonia
The secluded, colourful, rustic village of Assos nestles in a horseshoe-shaped harbour out on a peninsula, overlooked by a Venetian fortress. It’s surrounded by dramatic coastal scenery and lush green hillsides, dotted with tavernas. Time seems to stand still here and you can easily lose yourself for a few hours.
