You’ll be able to tick all of the traditional Greek sights off the list with a stay in Karavados. You’ve got the iconic whitewashed buildings with their russet-coloured roofs, a charming church, a stretch of silky golden sand and a generous sprinkling of historic landmarks – all you could want and more!
Karavados is perfect for a quiet, relaxing getaway, but if you want to get out and about a bit, jump in a hire car and you can easily see more of the surrounding area from here. Check out some different beaches, try your hand at water sports or just cruise around taking in the island’s stunning scenery.
Karavados, Kefalonia
Just over a mile from the centre of Karavados is the sandy beach of Agios Thomas. It’s made up of two coves, both backed by lush greenery. The main cove has a car park and snack bar where you can chill out and enjoy the view. The smaller cove has soft sand with sun loungers in season and is served by a picturesque taverna.
Karavados, Kefalonia
Agios Thomas Beach is known for its super-clear waters, so it’s a great spot to dive into and explore with your snorkel and fins on. The silvery fish seem to be unfazed by human visitors and you can swim alongside them. If you’re lucky you might spot a loggerhead turtle – they come to the area to nest in high summer.
Kefalonia
This pretty harbour village surrounded by pebbly beaches has an atmosphere of traditional Greek hospitality. It’s a popular stop off for sailing boats and there are some great waterside cafes and tavernas. You have to try the wood-fired bread from the local bakery. It is also home to a well-regarded diving school.
