In the resort itself, you’ll find the remains of the Christian basilica of Son Bou, a 5th-century church. Just a 40-minute drive away is Ciutadella, the island’s beautiful former capital. Its cobbled lanes are lined with Gothic churches and Moorish palaces, so it’s a total feast for the senses.
This is a real family-friendly destination. There’s plenty here for kids, starting with the huge stretch of Son Bou’s golden beach which has soft sand and warm, shallow water. Children will also be totally taken with the nature reserve. It’s the ideal spot if you’ve got youngsters!
Son Bou, Menorca
The Christian basilica of Son Bou is a ruins site of an ancient church that dates back to the fifth century. It's right next to the beach and adjacent to the Sol Minalos and Pinguinos hotels. It was rediscovered in the 1950s and is mostly hidden in a wild grassy area, distinguishable by its three naves.
Son Bou, Menorca
Playa de Son Bou is Menorca’s longest and possibly most popular beach, stretching 3km. The warm, choppy sea is perfect for a paddle but less ideal for families with small children Most of the beach is nudist-friendly but even more so to the west of the bay.
Son Bou, Menorca
There are some delightful country walks around Son Bou's nature reserve. Make sure you've got some mosquito spray when you meander through the reed beds and wetlands or you can hike up to the craggy headlands. Booted Eagle, Blue Rock Thrush and Egyptian Vultures are common here so be on the lookout.
