Make your way across the river by boat, and prepare for the illusion-like Lycian Rock Tombs to come into view. Carved into the towering cliffside, these fascinating stone structures are real all right. Dating back to the 4th century BC, you can admire the colossal kings’ tombs from your boat, or hike uphill for a closer look.
Ancient emperors are not the only famous residents around Dalyan. Over on Iztuzu Beach, keep your cameras poised for the legendary loggerhead turtles. These graceful giants of the sea head here every year between May and October to lay their eggs.
If you’re partial to anti-ageing treatments, sail across the beautiful blue-green waters of Lake Köyceğiz to Sultanyie’s sulphur-rich mud baths. Jump in and lather up to reap the benefits of this age-old, natural pick-me-up for your skin.

The ancient Lycian Tombs are one of Dalyan’s got-to-see sights. Intricately carved into the limestone cliffs, this masterpiece of monumental tombs is associated with some form of ancestor worship. Although they aren’t accessible by foot, they’re best viewed by boat for the most snap-worthy angles.

If more than four kilometres of golden sand, crystal clear water and stunning views wasn’t tempting enough, Iztuzu Beach has another special feature that brings the visitors in. Wooden stakes dotted around the beach mark the spots where loggerhead turtles are nesting, so keep your eyes peeled for this beautiful creature.

History lovers shouldn’t miss a visit to the ancient Phrygian city of Hierapolis, which is located near to Pumakkale. The city was built on the site of ancient hot springs, and the impressive ruins today boast a necropolis and sarcophagi. The archaeological museum here is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
