Nerja is most famous for the Balcón de Europa, a clifftop promenade with scenery right across the Med. It’s finished with cafés and restaurants, and also hosts festivals and shows. You can see along the town’s handful of sandy coves and the towering Sierra Almijara Mountains nearby.
Secure yourself a spot along the main beach, El Playazo, or hit the trio of small stretches to the east great for snorkelling. A short walk from the water is the quaint old town, where traditional Andalusian life is on show, complete with narrow streets and whitewashed houses.
You’re in a great spot to see some of Andalusia’s most famous cities and sights. It’s around an hour’s drive to Malaga and a little further to the historic town of Granada, where Moorish architecture thrives. There’s Ronda too, a striking town that spans the El Tajo Canyon.
Nerja, Costa del Sol
Formerly a fortress designed to keep pirates at bay, this natural balcony now acts as a viewing point across the coastline. It's well worth a visit at night when the nearby streets come alive with musicians and street performers. Grab a drink at one of the nearby cafes and sit back and soak up the atmosphere.

Want to practice your putting? Just 15 minutes away from Nerja is this 18-hole golf course designed by pro José María Cañizares. It's got wide greens and a great range of hazards to test your strokes against, making it suitable for all handicaps. As an added bonus you can enjoy views over the Mediterranean while you play.

Escape the hustle and bustle with a calming stroll around this 17th century church. The cool white exterior features two colourful ceramic tile plaques, one of which depicts the history of the church, while inside is decorated with a series of 18th century frescoes and a mural by painter Francisco Hernandez.
