It’s places like this that bring to life that famous Italian saying, la dolce vita – or ‘the sweet life’. That’s because things here centre around lazy days eating piled-high cones of gelato and big bowls of spaghetti alla Nerano between sunbathing. The pebble shoreline is south facing too, which means the turquoise-tinted waters are wonderfully warm.
If you can bear to leave your bathing spot behind, there are some scenic inlets close by that are well worth the trip. Swing by cliff-wrapped Recommone Bay to find a sweet, sheltered spot with a couple of shady grottos to retreat to when it gets too hot. Feeling glitzy? Get on a boat to Capri and pretend to be an A-lister for the day.

Take a drive along the world-famous clifftop of Amalfi to enjoy Italy’s most scenic stretch of coast. Carved out of the cliffs, and with a 500ft vertical drop, the road produces incredible views. There are vantage points you can safely pull into and snap marvellous photos from. Don't fancy driving the narrow, winding roads yourself? Take a bus and gaze in awe.

If you are looking for a piece of art or a souvenir to take back home with you then you’re in luck. There are some great artisan shops that sell locally made items like the famous linen shirts, handmade ceramics, and even workshops where craft products are made to order.

Standing tall on the coastline of Positano, this impressive church – believed to be founded in around the 10th-century – is open to visitors who wish to explore its stunning Baroque interior. Visit the main altar of St Stephen's Chapel, which houses a wooden statue of the Madonna and child, and step outside in the courtyard to see the 18th-century bell tower.
