Barcelo Illetas Albatros

We booked 2 weeks half board in a front facing sea view room. The view was stunning. The room was very nice. The food was generally good with only a couple of evenings where it wasn’t. The food waste is appalling though. There were very few people dining in the evening , a fact the hotel would be more than aware of, they failed to properly plan and cater for this, bringing out fresh trays of food when there were clearly not needed. There were too many sun beds around the pool. This meant they were very close together and therefore difficult to reposition as the sun moved around. The rocks and little pebble cove area around the hotel is not private for the hotel, it is public also if you have any mobility issues it wouldn’t be suitable for you. Whilst we had a lovely relaxing holiday we were disappointed with the lack of any sort but f entertainment in the evening. The bar on the main floor was closed other than for private functions and conferences. The only time there was any entertainment was on Saturday evening when there was a singer. The hotel did nothing to attract people in the evening therefore most people chose to go out of the hotel. The service was dreadful! There were a few staff who were good… Tush, the chef on the cooking station was excellent. Yvonne, Frank and a couple of the others in the restaurant were very pleasant. Many of the other waiting staff were surly and some even rude! Service was disorganised and often slow. There was no poolside service. Even when we booked the cabanas package, no one came to us to ask us if would like anything. The Italian lifeguard/pool attendant was very good. He was personable and helpful. There was another one on 2 of the days we were there who was downright rude! My sister had a birthday whilst we were there and they made a bit of a fuss to f her and a cake was left in our room from the manager which was nice. Also, on an evening when she wasn’t well enough to go to dinner, they brought a tray up to the room for her. There were a number of conferences at the hotel when we were there. The hotel seemed to be more interested in this than in their holiday makers. It is a lovely hotel badly let down by its level of customer service. We would not go back or recommend it.

Very disappointed with the selection and quality of the food and drinks at this hotel both at breakfast and especially at dinner.Wine selection very limited and poor.Not suitable for adults only. Noisy rooms as doors will only slam shut and sound insulation between rooms is poor, very limited storage in rooms and no dressing tables. Bar very disappointing in choice and service extremely slow considering lack of people around. Not a bad selection of places to eat nearby and you are not very far away from Palma. Good small beach a short walk away with place to eat and dine. Aircraft noise was a little annoying as quite constant due to nearby flight path,

A very pleasant, very clean and modern hotel in a quiet seaside town of Illetas was just what we needed to recharge the batteries. Breakfast was excellent as was the pool area, plenty of sun loungers available. What we particularly liked was the policy regarding the sun loungers. As many of you will have noticed when on holiday some people put a towel, book, flip flop and the like on a sun lounger at 7am in the morning then disappear till mid day. You come down at 10am after breakfast and all the beds have gone!! It is so annoying. This does not happen at the Albatros!!! If a bed is unoccupied in the morning (apart from the flip flop) for half an hour or so in the morning then the belongings are collected up and put in a plastic sack and stored by the pool bar. It was fascinating watching people coming back to their beds and the bemusement on their faces, thinking " I am sure I left my flip flop here". Well done pool staff, this is how it should be.

We arrived and our room was not available however we were able to check in, were offered an area to change, given the chance to use the facilities- pool,bar etc until room available and a glass if cava. We chose to take the time to get our bearings and explore the surrounding area. Room was ready within an hour. Very clean, modern and well equipped. We had a superior room with side view balcony but it didn't have much of a view - mainly the neighbouring carpark- but it did get the sun in the evening. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The buffet breakfast had lots of choice and the dining room was never too busy. We always managed to get either a window table or balcony table overlooking the pool. During the day the pool area could get a little crowded but it was pleasing that the hotel had a policy that did not allow guests to leave towels on sinloungers and then disappear for hours on end. They regularly removed belongings. One criticism was the cost of Balinese beds - minimum of €70! We chose to stay on the loungers and sent the equivalent on the a la carts menu in the restaurant which was superb. Our 10 days in Illetas was an enjoyable, relaxing holiday helped by the Barcelo Illetas Albatros being a good hotel.

We really shouldn't have been at this hotel but it was a happy change. We were phoned the afternoon before our departure and told our hotel in Palmanova wasn't finished being refurbished and we were offered the Albertros instead. I'm glad I paid for a superior room with a sea view as the room we were given was lovely. Huge super king sized bed but a bit hard for our taste, robes and slippers to use, lots of freebie toiletries to use. Powerful shower but only a frosted glass between you and the rest of the bedroom same with the toilet( could be a bit embarrassing at times! ) Not much space to place clothes, no draws, no bedside tablets only slim shelves fitted into the very tastefully decorated wall. The balcony could do with a smaller table and chairs as it was quite narrow but the views were lovely. A corner room with seaview is recommended as it gives an even more spectacular view and also some sun in the morning. We were staying on a half board basis. A glass of Carva as you entered the dining room, breakfast and evening meal. Breakfast was good with choice of the usual eggs and Spanish bacon or healthier options, lots of different coffee to choose. Dinner on the on the other hand didn't offer a great deal of choice and we found it didn't matter what time you went down to eat there weren't many people dining (more a bed and breakfast hotel). Illegals its self is not a resort, there isn't much to do, only a few bar/restraunts and shops in the area. There is a small beach a bout 900m up hill but worth the walk. All in all if you want to spoil yourself in this up market Spa hotel ( plus it's adult only) then this could be the place the place for you. Bus stop just outside and short ride on the number 3 bus to Palma bus station to get out and about the island. Lastly the staff at the Abertro were wonderful, friendly, attentive and efficient. We would definitely go back if we could afford to!
