Staff extremely friendly and helpful. A proper 5 star hotel with fantastic leisure facilities. The perfect hotel for our honeymoon. Plenty of choice at mealtimes and always able to get a sunbed. Fully equipped gym and indoor swimming pool with spa treatments available.

Lovely hotel in fab location. Balcony room at side of hotel was really peaceful. Food choice was as expected - cooked well, but a bit repetitive. Rooms and public areas were immaculately clean - hats off to the cleaners. Only given it four stars due to slow bar service. Not the staff fault for effort - just not enough staff.

Excellent hotel with great sea view and a half hour walk to the marina. Very good dining facilities - every breakfast choice is provided and huge choice for the evening buffets. There are also smaller a la carte restaurants offering more intimate surroundings. The service throughout the hotel is provided by friendly efficient staff. Highly recommended and we are looking forward to returning.

Great hotel, excellent food and outstanding service from the staff. Our arrival was delayed and the hotel upgraded us free of charge. We will stay here again, its location is great and the view over the ocean is something to behold.

Our second stay at this hotel. Great location close to the newly refurbished Lido area if you want to swim in the sea. Plenty of good quality restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. Friendly, attentive staff, lovely room. Great pool area with plenty of sunbeds. Buffet breakfast very good with plenty of choice to suit all tastes. Overall, a very enjoyable stay once again. We spent two weeks at the Melia Madeira Mare and whilst we were very impressed with the location of the hotel and the size of our room we were disappointed with the standard of the meals. At best breakfast was ordinary, the only food item that I was particularly impressed with was the omelettes, freshly made to individual requirements. The other breakfast items were mundane, boring and luke warm. Evening dinner was no better by any means. The soup was of the temperature you might serve to a toddler, rice was also well below consumable temperature and meat was very undercooked and also cold. Deserts were a massive disappointment too, yes there was fresh fruit ice cream, cheese and biscuits but why is it though acceptable to serve commercially produced

Stayed here for two weeks in January and had a fantastic holiday. Beautiful room with a great sea view. The staff were all very helpful, and nothing was too much trouble, especially Lenine at breakfast who made sure we had a 5* experience,

Great first impression with friendly and welcoming Reception staff and a beautiful fragrance pumped through the air. Well appointed bed and bath rooms. Spotlessly clean throughout the hotel. Breakfast on the terrace was great, so much choice that everyone will find things they like. All the staff were very welcoming, especially Lucia in the bar and the resident "football expert" who served coffee every morning with a smile and song. The hotel is well located with buses and taxis not far away. The nearby Lido area was a favourite for us. There are great local restaurants serving excellent quality food. The resort is hilly which may well pose difficulties for anyone with mobility issues.

The Melia is an excellent hotel in a very good location. The staff throughout the hotel are very helpful. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was varied and of a good standard. A great location for eating out and walking into to Funchal.

A very good hotel in a prime location overlooking the Atlantic ocean. Close to many good restaurants and bars and the Lido area. Close to bus stops and easy access to the city centre. The service was very good the staff was excellent.

Staff were very polite and helpful, nothing too much of a problem - even posted our cards for us! Rooms have everything we required. Buffet breakfast was of a good standard. Good location, close to bus stops and coastal promenade

on arrival we were informed that we would be getting an upgrade to a premier deluxe suite at no extra charge which was very welcome. the person who checked us in was very polite and efficient. all the staff very polite and helpful.the suite was superb large bedroom and lounge area toilet had a bath and a separate shower and a good kitchen well equipped the food was of good quality not a big choice but plenty of food you could have someone come to your suite and cook your diner and serve it to you on your balcony nice touch. the location of the hotel was good five mins to the lido. you could walk into Funchal in about 45 mins which was not bad as we are over 60.the entertainment was low key which suited the hotel.

Hotel was clean but when we went to the restaurant for breakfast it was very poor and nothing was cooked at the grills everything was under hot covers and tasted like the food had been there all night was not impressed the choice was terrible and on the evening meal they charged for water would not visit this hotel again.
