Atlantida Apartments Funchal.

Great location only a few streets back from seafront. Close to the La Vie shopping centre which has a large supermarket on ground floor perfect for a self catering holiday. Rooms very spacious and very well equipped. Staff great very helpful and knowledgeable.

Atlantida Apartments is situated in a very useful location in Funchal. It's very close to the harbour area and the bus services, also near Santa Katarina Park, the old town, the chair lift cable car and multiple eateries. The apartments themselves are kept clean, the facilities are more than adequate for self catering and the staff are brilliant.

Spacious apartment in an excellent location close to city centre shops, bars and restaurants , marina and promenade, from where many bus routes operated. Serviced every day, with towel change. Friendly helpful staff. Our apartment overlooked street but with windows closed at night-time, noise was not a problem. Occasionally, noise from other apartments might be heard. Stayed on room only basis.

We had 2 apartments at Atlantida for our family holiday. The rooms were clean and bright, with an adequately furnished kitchenette (including a dishwasher!) The location was good with just a short walk to the resort centre and seafront. There is a supermarket across the street in the shopping centre which made stocking up on supplies easy. Would recommend the Atlantida Apartments to anyone looking for a good base to explore this lovely town.

We deliberately chose the apartments for the location in the centre of Funchal. Out priority was to be able to travel easily by bus to other parts of the island. We also prefer the 'old town' atmosphere to beachside for eating out etc. The apartment met expectations: clean and functional. Good bakers almost next door for breakfast items. Funchal a delightful town, especially for evening strolls. Buses easy to locate and negotiate.

Stayed for 7 nights. Spacious Studio without balcony. Bedroom, Kitchen lounge area and bathroom. Cleaned every day, beds and towels changed every other day. Bed made every day. Large double bed, mattresses a bit firm but fine for us. bathroom clean and tidy, Over bath shower always hot and powerful enough. Kitchen with microwave and hob (no oven), fridge with freezer compartment and everything needed - maybe bring your own pan scrub and tea towel if doing a lot of self-catering but there are plenty of restaurants. Breakfast option has Bacon and eggs if requested, cereals, fresh fruit salad and whole fruit. yogurts, cheese slices, ham, fresh bread and local Madeira cake. All good. Reception staff friendly. Nothing fancy but good and clean. Location is great for those not wanting to drag up the hill every day to 'hotel zone'. Close to supermarket in shopping centre. Close to the Ritz and therefore the town restaurants and the front all easily accessible. And not too much noise from the relatively quiet street if windows are open. All in all very pleased.

Although this hotel is in a good location and the staff are very friendly, the beds are very uncomfortable. For older people especially, the quality of sleep is very important. Both mattresses were quite hard and had springs protruding at various points, making sleep difficult and disturbed. Alternative, softer mattresses were requested but not available. Other UK guests had a similar experience. An urgent bed upgrade is suggested. Even many budget hotels in the UK now have high quality mattresses. Also, the curtains and soft furnishings were quite dusty, exacerbating my wife's dust allergy.

2nd visit here (first in Sept '15); the studio is beginning to show some signs of 'wear and tear' but is appropriately equipped for self-catering if wished; the staff are helpful and the location is excellent for those wishing to have independence when travelling (supermarkets close and range of reasonable restaurants - particularly Jardim das Flores). Possible to walk 'on the flat' for those with mobility difficulties in what is a fascinating, hilly town.

perfect location 5 minutes from the marina and more restaurants than we could possibly need. most of the big hotels are quite a way out of the centre and involve quite steep hills, atlantida is so central and no hills involved, perfect. the apartment itself was very large, very clean and so peaceful, we were also pleasantly surprised that being an apartment the bed linen and towels were changed daily and the apartment cleaned. the staff were all so friendly very helpful and informative when asked, all in all a perfect place to stay in funchal

The apartments were good value for money and in a great location - very close to the town centre with access to many restaurants and bars. The apartments are quite comfortable and spacious. The separate kitchen area has a settee and TV. The kitchen facilities are not brilliant. OK for tea, coffee and a snack, but not for a full blown meal. However, within five minutes walk is a shopping centre that has a supermarket in the basement. You could buy hot, inexpensive and tasty meals there if you wanted to save money, so no need to cook.

Our first visit to Madeira and enjoyed holiday very much. Plenty to do and see. Funchal not recommended as a family resort more a base for sightseeing. Very pretty island. Weather as expected for time of year.
