Rocamar Complex - Royal Orchid Aparthotel

Looking forward to this holiday as we had to cancel our September 2018 holiday. Looked through the brochures and we were very pleased with the descriptions. Fully understood it was a hotel complex with shared facilities with others. Nice room, aparthotel, so room included kitchen but staying all inclusive so didn't make full use but really good. Unfortunately furniture worn and needed replacing. Rusty air conditioning unit on balcony which detracted from the great sea views from our room. Big issue no water provided and advised not to drink tap water. Bottled water available at bar at ridiculous charge including for all inclusive. (Supermarket had bottles at sensible price) Buffet service not available until later during our stay. Meals repetitive and lacked variety, especially desserts which were the same things repeated. Restaurant at Hotel did not open so all meals at the shared facility. Cocktail bar did not open. Very nice meals at the Steakhouse. Good thing..all staff were excellent so big thank you to all of them.

Really good aparthotel. Second time we have stayed there. Facilities and staff excellent. Nice and quiet and with direct private access to the sea. Rooms are very spacious. Bathrooms are a good size. Kitchen facilities are fine although we only ever had a lunch and breakfast as we ate out every evening.

Can't fault Jet2holidays,Royal Orchid Hotel or the staff, my husband and I spent a week here in August self catering room was cleaned daily all linen was changed during our stay, nothing was to much trouble. Would definitely return to this lovely relaxing hotel.

Great accommodation, very spacious. Hotel and room very clean. Wonderful views of the Atlantic Ocean. Staff very helpful and friendly. Would recommend this hotel for a quiet, peaceful, relaxing holiday.

The hotel is well placed outside of Funchal but there is a free shuttle bus(limited spaces so book in advance) Public transport is easy to use and cheap so the distance from Funchal is not critical The food is varied and mostly very tasty not haute cuisine but that is not what you are paying for The staff are extremely helpful and the general condition and cleanliness of the build is good.

We spent a lovely week at the Royal Orchid hotel. The room and position was superb. The food was good and quite varied especially in the evening. The black scabbard fish is delicious. We enjoyed the evening entertainment. Our only criticism was that the bar was small and as such did not invite people to stay in there after the evening meal. Therefore everything in the hotel seemed quiet by 9.30. There are a few bars in the resort so there were alternatives to going to bed early! My husband loved the snorkelling directly into the sea from the hotel. The car hire firm across the road were really helpful and a car is a definite asset. The hotel staff were efficient,especially Anton. Thank you. We will come back.

Wasn't at all happy with this hotel. Staff wasn't the most friendliest. It was like ghost town. Definitely not a family holiday we would like to go on again. Mostly aimed at walkers ect. Wouldn't return.

We stayed in the Royal Orchid hotel in Canico de Bexo in August 2016. The room that we had booked turned out to be a Junior Suite with sea view which came as a lovely surprise as we had been upgraded from the twin bedroom that we had originally booked. The apartment comprised a bedroom,a well equipped kitchen area, a sitting room area with a sofa and two arm chairs, and a table and chairs.There was also a shower and toilet with not one but two basins! And a balcony that overlooked the ever changing Atlantic. The apartment was extremely comfortable with plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space. It was cleaned every day and clean towels were readily available.The hotel also provided their own towels for use on the sunbeds and in the gym,sauna and jacuzzi -which was very useful and another time we wouldn't bring beach towels- saves space in the suitcase! We made a lot of use of the gym jacuzzi and sauna areas which were free to use for hotel guests. The sunbeds were arranged around the hotel at lots of different levels in groups of twos and threes and there were plenty of them so finding sunbeds was never a problem. Worth knowing that the sun was hotter than we thought and as it was quite windy some of the time it was important to really cover up with sun lotion. We were self-catering so we didnt get to try the food in the restaurants but managed to find several good restaurants in the area -just a few minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel ran a courtesy bus service into Funchal which was very useful but it does need to be booked the day before you want to go. The receptionists were always polite friendly and helpful and would post any information you needed under your door. All in all a fabulous holiday. We thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to go back next year.It is not a hotel that I would recommend for families as the children would need constant supervision with all the steps and the rocky areas. I should also say that it would be a good idea to bring some sturdy shoes for walking as there are a lot of hills. There is a good bus service that goes quite regularly to Canico -up the hill.i believe this is the part of the village that comes up on Google maps which is not the actual resort! If you are self catering I would recommend bringing your own teabags/coffee as these were quite expensive in the local spar.(Just 5minutes away.) We have got very happy memories of our first holiday in Madeira and hope that you will enjoy it as much as we did.

We have visited the hotel at late May with two young children (age 7 and 1). We had a nice time here, although I wouldn't recommend the hotel to families with little ones as there is not too many entertainment for the kids. It is more suitable for people who travel without children. The hotel is clean and quiet, no party places around. I absolutely loved our room which had a huge balcony facing to the sea. The water was just in front of our foots and I adored it. The view was amazing day and night. The room itself was very spacious, a bit worn, but it didn't bother us too much because we were out most of the times. The bathroom was newly refurbished which was a good point for me and I liked the kitchen in the room. The cleanliness was perfect, the bed was comfortable. The food served with the half board was also perfect. The only disappointment for us was the swimming pool which was terribly cold inside too. I choose this hotel because of the indoor pool and it let us down that the kids froze in the water after 5 minutes of swimming. The warm turkish bath was not allowed for children under 15. Overall it was a nice holiday at this place and would come back here without the kids. :) Definitely recommend the place.

Whilst some aspects of the room were a little tired, it was spacious and had the benefit of a fridge, kettle and toaster as well as other cooking facilities, which were ideal for making snacks and keeping drinks chilled. We had a fantastic view of the ocean. Breakfast was good with a variety of options and, as I am a Coeliac, the availability of gluten free bread and cereal was a real bonus. It was also possible to buy gluten free items in Canico. Although the hotel was not located in Funchal the local bus service was regular so this was not a problem. Local restaurants nearby were all able to offer gluten free options and the food was great especially if you like fresh fish. The hotel 'happy hour' was great and the cocktails were not to be missed. The local drink of 'Poncha' is something to try.
