Alvor Baia Resort Hotel & Slide & Splash Waterpark

I cannot fault this hotel in terms of cleanliness and the staff were all super efficient at keeping the place the place running smoothly. There was plenty of food choices available for even the fussiest of eaters. Entertainment was more geared towards families with younger children which was fantastic however not much to do for older kids. Beautiful village and locals very friendly indeed.

We had a great stay at the Alvor Baia, really friendly staff, comfortable clean room, good food with plenty of options and very generous drinks. Close to the beach with regular buses linking the two, we had an awesome time at the beach. Only downside was the pool, although large and inviting looking, was very cold.

Large, spacious, clean and modern hotel, with friendly and helpful staff. Suites are spacious and well equipped. About a 15 minute walk from Alvor town but a bus service to the beach and plenty of parking also. We have young children who loved the pool and play area, though hotel entertainment can be a tad noisy till late in the evening.

Ignore any negative reviews, the hotel is fantastic and we will be returning: Accommodation – light airy large rooms, one side of the room is the bed & wall mounted TV, other side of the room is a sitting room with sofa, wall mounted TV, kitchen table, cooker, microwave and fridge with small freezer compartment. Bathrooms are a good size with shower in bath. Tip – if you want to make a brew in the morning in your room then take a travel kettle with you, we got milk from the local supermarket and brought our own tea/coffee. Food – excellent, great variety (fish, meats, fresh salads, cakes, breads etc) always served hot and fresh, I cannot understand why anyone would complain in previous posts. The fish selection is excellent, large prawns, cod, mussels . We travelled with a toddler and there was plenty of selection for her too. The chicken kebabs served at lunch are lovely, you wont be disappointed and the meats served on the BBQ in the evening are delicious too. Pool – stunning… the largest swimming pool I’ve seen, its temp was slightly cool (we travelled in June) but a welcome rest from the heat. The paddling pool with the children’s slide is great, hours of fun to be had in there. Never struggled for a sunbed but because we wanted to be right next to the paddling pool we did put our towels out when we went for breakfast. If you want to use the hotels beach towels then you have to give 20 euro deposit per towel which is refunded at the end of your stay, you can change your towels for clean ones anytime you like in the Spa. Entertainment team – these guys and girls work extremely hard keeping up a great atmosphere round the pool during the day with various activities to join in. During the evening there is a mini disco which my daughter loved and being the time of year it was held outside. It can get a bit cold in the evening if its windy so take a light jacket. The evening entertainment after the disco was ample, the team do a great job. Drink – Plenty of selection, Superbok beer, local wine and spirits, soft drinks, tea/coffee. The mixers come from a machine and the tonic water was rather sweet for my taste. Only tried one cocktail and it wasn’t particularly nice. Bar staff work very hard to get everyone served and I waited no longer than 5 mins to be served at busy times. We have watched the Alvor Baia Resort Hotel grow since it was a space of waste ground. After it had been open a few years we decided to take the plunge and give it a go, we were left disappointed with our stay. Firstly, the room. The veneer on the unit below the TV was missing making it unsightly and there were scorch marks on the kitchenette table. The bathroom had dirty grouting round the bath, cracked tiles and mould near the ceiling vent. The balcony furniture was a dirty yellow colour. We reported this to reception and the unit below the TV was repplaced but nothing else. When we passed this on to the Jet2 rep he said that it was the end of the season and the hotel will deal with it when it closes for the winter, not quite the response we expected! Now the hotel management. When we booked we were told we would have use of the restaurant for adults only, families with children under 12 would be in the other restaurant. What happened three days into our stay was quite unbelievable. We were leaving to go for a walk and in reception tables with drinks had been laid on, there was music playing and generally a bit of a celebration atmosphere. As we were leaving we noticed that the reception was for a large (400 people) party of elderly French who had come to the Algarve. The fun didn't stop there. This large party were there for a week and were given exclusive access to a restaurant, the family one, meaning that all the other guests had to use the adult only restaurant. This led to extremely busy mealtimes with the staff often turning guests away as there weren't enough seats. As the French party were elderly getting a lift to the floor we were on was almost impossible. My wife is a sprightly 49 however walks with the aid of a stick or crutches on a bad day, did the elderly party consider this? Nope, they pushed and shoved at us, often swearing (I heard one sweet old dear say 'merde' as she tried to push me down the stairs!). All in all we were disappointed in our stay, although on a positive note the staff, for the most part, were hard working and very attentive and the pool area was very well kept. I doubt we'll return to this particular hotel, although we will go back to the beautiful village of Alvor.

We stayed in the hotel for 10 nights in October, after reading the reviews we were a little concerned but had no need to be. Our room was ready for us on arrival, we had a very early morning flight so that was a good sign, it was spotless and was kept that way by the staff throughout our stay. The whole hotel was spotless the cleanest we have ever stayed in. There was plenty of choice in the restaurant we always managed to find something to eat and it was nice. The pool area was kept clean all day too. The animation team were the best we have had in a hotel, they never stopped from morning to night and the shows they put on were really good. The hotel was a 15 min walk into Alvor, no problem for us as we like to walk but no good for the less mobile. The hotel runs a shuttle service to the beach which we used a few times. Overall we had a lovely stay in a lovely hotel and this goes to show some people are really hard to please!

Super energetic and helpful staff, fantastic food selection, enormous pool, huge number of sunbeds available. Overall a well equipped hotel, but let down slightly by one or two maintenance issues I thought.

although the hotel has a 4 star rating, i found the rooms to be very basic,the bed was uncomfortable , there was no kettle etc in our room as advertised, the food and service from the staff is definitely 4 star.

First holiday for my son who is 2. Was a super holiday. Hotel was aamazing! Super clean. Lots of ammenties. Staff are super friendly and nothing was to much! Would recommened to anyone! Loved having a partitican in the room to allow that bit of space for the adults and the children but still all being in one room! Brilliant food and different every evening! Lovely choice of cocktails too+ One improvement could be the outdoor pool was heated. Overall though brilliant!
