If you’re looking to sample some of Sardinia’s best seafood, you’ve come to the right place. Head to the waterfront and try lobster alla catalana – Catalan-style lobster, which is boiled and served with thin slices of tomato and onions. Yum! And you can’t beat the view of the harbour.
When you’ve finished exploring everything the Old Town has to offer, why not explore the island? Grotto di Nettuno is a must-see on any trip to Sardinia. It’s easy to get there, with boats departing daily down by the harbour. There’s plenty to see as you cruise along the coast too.
When it comes to beaches, you’ve got the pick of the bunch here. Start with Bombarde Beach, a popular plot with fine, white sand and crystal-clear water. There’s even a hop-on, hop-off beach bus that runs in the summer months if you fancy ticking a few off.
Sardinia
Alghero’s Old Town is made up of winding streets, terracotta-topped buildings and Catalan-style cathedrals. Its long history is etched into every inch of the town, from the architecture to the city walls. And with so many restaurants and bars, it makes an ideal base for exploring.
Sardinia
Bombarde Beach is a real slice of paradise. Whether you want to catch the rays or get stuck into a good book, this half-moon of sand is perfect for lazing on, while the glittering waters are ideal for a refreshing dip. And when you get peckish, there are plenty of restaurants backing the beach.
Sardinia
Venture across the island on a day trip to discover Grotta di Nettuno, an enormous sea cave formed millions of years ago. Descend the dramatic staircase down the cliff into the caves and you'll be rewarded with staggering views of stalactites and stalagmites in all sorts of shapes and sizes.
