The soft sands make Glyfada Beach a real draw – and it’s the focal point of this easy-does-it resort. Pitch up and hire a sunlounger or lay your towel down closer to the waves. If you’re keen to just relax, this is the hottest spot in town to do just that.
Surrounded by olive trees above the beckoning beach, Mirtiotissa Monastery sits pretty with a story to tell. It dates back hundreds of years and is located here after a religious icon was found in a cave enveloped by myrtles – or so the local tale says. Why not go and see the building for yourself?
Glyfada, Corfu
This is one of the most popular beaches in Corfu, especially with the younger crowd. Awarded Blue Flag status for its pristine waters, the soft white sand is backed by picturesque cliff-sides. You’ll find sun loungers and umbrellas to rent, plenty of beachfront bars and restaurants, and fantastic water sport activities.
Glyfada, Corfu
Roots don’t get much humbler than these. After myrtles were found in a cave, the monastery that now stands in its place is ready and waiting to be visited. It’s around 15km from Corfu Town but makes a great detour for views and a bit of local history.
Corfu
The Byzantine Angelokastro Castle, or Castle of Angels, stands on the island’s highest peak 305 metres above sea level. The clear views for miles around from up here helped defend the island against Ottoman attack. It's a bit of a climb, but well worth it for the stunning views and amazing sunsets.
