Tavira’s unique appearance allows you to enjoy two lots of the winding, narrow streets and decorative architecture. The whitewashed buildings gleam in the midday sun and you’ll find cosy boutiques tucked in alongside houses and shops as you meander around and soak up blemishes of the past.
If you’ve had your fill of sightseeing on your Tavira holiday, then golden sands are beckoning. The beach is nice and wide, so there’s plenty of space for you to choose your spot. If you want to see even more of this glorious resort and its coastline, there’s a ferry to get you from A to B.
Tavira, Algarve
A Sabores da Ria, a Portuguese seafood restaurant overlooking the Ria Formosa estuary, is famous for its fish, chips and mushy peas. The menu is simple and good value and offers meat and vegetarian dishes. Although the portion sizes can be a little hit and miss, the food is fresh, tasty and well-priced.
Tavira, Algarve
Cabanas de Tavira beach got its name from the pretty blue and white fishing huts that line its coast. It's a short ferry ride and worth the journey for the pristine sand and sea that has led to it being awarded Blue Flag status. It's a casual beach with only a few restaurants and a mellow atmosphere.
Tavira, Algarve
The ruins of the Castelo de Tavira (Tavira Castle) are an interesting find and the surrounding walls are impressively well-preserved, though you may spend most of your time exploring the beautiful gardens filled with exotic plants. Head to the top of the hill for unrivalled views of Tavira.
