Location
Makarska
Combining beach, city and countryside in one cosmopolitan yet history-steeped retreat, Makarska is the perfect base for Dalmatian exploration. Climbing mountains and touring the Old Town are standard daily exercises, but it’s the ferry connections to Brač island that are the real game-changers around these parts. And when the sun sinks down, stylish restaurants and bars under the stars are where the parties start.Language

From beach to mountains
The city starts at the beautiful crescent-shaped pebble beach, backed by tall pine trees. From there, it’s a short walk to the main square, lined by the 18th-century Church of St. Mark and the old homes of wealthy merchants. You’ll spot the towering Biokovo Mountain just outside town as well.
Island tours galore
When it comes to getting out and about, you’ve hit the jackpot in Makarska. Hop on a boat trip to famous local sights like Bol, Zlatni Rat Beach on Brač Island and Hvar Island right from the city’s harbour. Could it be any handier?
Nights like no other
Two words: cave club. There’s one of a kind nightlife and then there’s Deep Makarska, a neon-lit café and late-night music venue set within a cave! But that’s not all, the city also has a huge choice of upbeat bars and restaurants too.
Nearby things to do
Hike in Biokovo Nature Park
Makarska, Split and Dalmatian Coast
Makarska’s a hiker’s haven with its wonderful walking routes and magnificent mountain trails. It’s home to Dalmatia’s highest mountain, Biokovo, which stands at an incredible 1,762m and is a protected national park. Take a tour with an expert guide and remember to pack plenty of drinking water.
Split City day trips
Makarska, Split and Dalmatian Coast
Split is less than 1.5 hours from Makarska by car, which means an epic Old Town, amazing ancient history and some pretty impressive beaches are closer than you think! Hire a car and spend a day discovering Croatia’s second-biggest city and all the secrets the lie within.
Visit Brac and Zlatni Rat Beach
Makarska, Split and Dalmatian Coast
Catch a boat trip from Makarska harbour to Brač island, it’s home to the lovely resorts of Milna and Supetar as well as the famous Zlatni Rat Beach. Nicknamed 'golden horn' after its distinctive shape, this eye-catching beach is just a stone's throw from Bol – it’s impressive to say the least.
