This little harbour village, all dressed up with olive groves and fruit trees, is a peaceful pick once known for its fishing and farming. The beautiful town’s got 2km of beach to boot, plus various churches decorating the landscape and a 14th century monastery to check out.
You’ll notice Roman and medieval blemishes all over Slano, but head up into the hills for wowing views, or even check out Dubrovnik Old Town – you won’t be far from the historical melting pot. The Elaphiti Islands are worth exploring, too. With its Italian roots, don’t pass up classic pasta after days out.
Slano, Dubrovnik Coast
The peaceful village of Slano curves around a wide picturesque bay strewn with beautiful beaches of course sand and smooth pebbles, and backed by lush hills. The calm waters of the sheltered bay are perfect for water sports like kayaking and snorkelling, and the beaches here are normally quiet.
Slano, Dubrovnik Coast
Slano has a traditional feel and its handful of restaurants mostly specialise in homemade, regional specialities - with a strong focus on fresh seafood - although Italian favourites feature too. Try Mirakul for high-quality local specialities served in a lush garden steps away from the beach.
Slano, Dubrovnik Coast
Slano and its surroundings have been inhabited since prehistoric times so hike or cycle through the nearby hills and you may come across the remains of ancient castles and forts. In Slano you can view early Christian sarcophagi at the 14th century Franciscan monastery and the Roman castrum at Gradina Hill.
