Without a doubt it’s Playa de la Arena’s Blue Flag beach that makes it so special. ‘Playa de la Arena’ translates directly as ‘sand beach’ but it’s not the typical golden grains you might expect. It’s blanketed with black sand and is known for being one of the cleanest beaches around.
Playa de la Arena, Tenerife
As a winner of the European Blue Flag award for cleanliness every year since 1989, you can expect this small beach to be spotless. The volcanic sand absorbs the sun's heat, making it warm beneath your feet whatever time of year you visit. It's an excellent spot for snorkelling and scuba diving.

Mount Teide is Spain’s highest volcano and is nestled in the extra-terrestrial terrain of Teide National Park, with its swirling colour palette of volcanic hues and landscape pockmarked with craters. Views from the summit are epic, but remember to bring warm layers as temperatures can drop to freezing.
Tenerife
Visit the impressive Basilica of Candaleria to view an iconic statue of the Virgin of Candelaria that was found on a nearby beach in the 14th century. The ornate Catholic church built to house the black Madonna is guarded by bronze statues of the Guanche kings, the original inhabitants of Tenerife.
